FIRST SEMESTER
UNIT I: ARCHETYPAL LITERATURE
THE STORY AS A REFLECTION OF THE SELF
Students will analyze a variety archetypal literature and examine how these archetypes connect to the human condition.
UNIT II: CLASSICAL PHILOSOPHY/DRAMA
“I THINK, THEREFORE I AM.” ~ DESCARTES
Students will examine concepts such as truth, existence, fate, reality, and reason as defined across the ages, from Classical to modern “lovers of wisdom.” Students will then examine the archetypal tragic hero, as defined in Aristotle’s Poetics, and analyze the significance of the tragic hero to humanity.
OUR DESIRE TO CONNECT AS INDIVIDUALS
Students will examine three major schools of Asian philosophy and the impact of these philosophies upon historical and modern thought.
UNIT IV: OUR DESIRE TO TRANSCEND
Students will analyze works from the Medieval to the modern age and examine humankind's quest for morality and answers to the questions on life and death
